Wellbeing

Social and emotional support

Wellbeing

Wellbeing refers to the state of being healthy and happy in life. It includes having good mental health, high life satisfaction, a sense of meaning or purpose, and the ability to manage stress. We believe that emotional and physical health and wellbeing are critical to enabling students to cope with life challenges as they move towards adulthood.

At Kerang Technical High School, our aim is to provide social and emotional support to students to enable them to reach their goals both at school and as active members of their community.

We recognise all students are individuals with a diverse range of needs and supports are implemented with consideration of these differences.

The Wellbeing team at Kerang Technical High School consists of a Wellbeing Coordinator, Speech Pathologist, Secondary School Nurse, Chaplain and Art Therapist. We work closely with the Doctors in School Program, Headspace and Northern District Community Health.

Dogs in Schools

We have 2 therapy dogs at KTHS – Elsa and Wilma. Therapy dogs support both student’s mental health and their learning outcomes. Dogs are excellent companions and they can help increase students level of comfort when interacting with their peers. Therapy dogs also help to promote teamwork amongst students and help them to develop empathy towards others. Therapy dogs also boost the morale and wellbeing of KTHS staff.

Elsa & Wilma are here 3 days per week and provide a range of support for students.
