Secondary School Nurse

The Secondary School Nurse is part of the Wellbeing Team and works collaboratively to improve health, wellbeing and risk-taking behaviours among young people with appropriate preventative health care for young people, their families and the school community.

The role includes: –

  • Health promotion, primary prevention and small group work focussing on health-related discussion and information.
  • Collaboration with the school community and outside support services to develop activities to improve health and wellbeing.
  • Advice, support and referrals to assist young people in making healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Working with teachers to deliver health education sessions such as sexual health, body image, safe partying, etc.
  • Provide appropriate primary health care through professional clinical nursing, including assessment, care, resources, referral and support.
  • Supporting transition for students from primary to secondary school and within school levels.
